Survey Nation is back in San Francisco to cover the first full day of legalized gay marriage in the state of California.
Survey Nation is back in San Francisco to cover the first full day of legalized gay marriage in the state of California. This was a historic day for Civil Rights in the US and we were fortunate to spend it in the epicenter of the gay and lesbian movement.
In 2004, Mayor Gavin Newson legalized same-sex marriage in the city of San Francisco, but the weddings were quickly halted by the California State Supreme Court. In May of 2008 The California Supreme Court struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage in a decision that would invalidate virtually any law that discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation.
While the topic of gay marriage remains controversial in the America, there was no overt opposition to the California Supreme Court's ruling on the day of the marriages.
