Hi Diana, thanks for doing this and showing the world about hip-hop dance. I know it was a small comment and nothing to take too seriously, but I'd just like to address your last comment about how hip-hop "isn't just for thugs anymore."
I think it's safe to say that it is an assumption by many people (as shown through this small statement) that hip-hop WAS originally intended for "thuggish" people alone. It's a habit in American culture to easily label minorities, those of low income status, or street kids "thugs", when in reality, a large majority of these people have nothing to do with gang-banging, drugs, or violence in the way that the word 'thug' connotates.
Again, I know that it was probably not meant in this way, and I apologize if I'm taking this too seriously, but I would think that many of the originators of hip-hop culture in New York might be offended if you were to refer to them as "thugs". I think as hip-hop becomes increasingly popular in our mainstream media, it's important to understand the origin of the culture and not generalize the types of people associated with it.
Thanks for allowing me the chance to speak!
